How COVID has Transformed Technological Trends in the Workplace

Chances are, you have probably heard the word Zoom one too many times. Well, you’re not alone as you head into one of the 300 million Zoom meetings hosted daily. To put that in perspective, that is basically equivalent to every person in the US having a meeting over Zoom. Everyday. In April, Zoom hit 2 trillion run minutes (about 4 million years).

This has become the reality of day-to-day life as work shifted to remote. Instead of typical workdays in the office, many employees are able to work from the comfort of their own homes. Companies are beginning to realize the value of a different workplace model, without the need to attract workers to a fancy central campus in the center of Silicon Valley. Google recently announced that all employees will be remote until 2021, Facebook is allowing employees to work from home indefinitely, Palantir is moving its headquarters to Colorado, and Stripe is paying employees $20,000 to move out of the Bay Area.

Unfortunately, it is time to get used to this increased screen time because based on current trends and the direction things are moving, the future of work is digital. This isn’t saying that we’ll live in a Black-Mirror/Ready Player One type dystopia where we are living in a simulation anytime soon, but instead, we should prepare to see and use more niche…
